Sky dropped 80M FTTP

I only just noticed this, but Sky doesn't appear to be selling 80/20 FTTP any more. Their site offers me:

* 40/10 for £25/month (rising to £35.50)
* 150/30 for £32/month (rising to £40)
* 550/75 for £42/month (rising to £50)

+ one-off £19.95, 18 month contract.

(Aside: I'm doing some research for a neighbour who wants to switch to FTTP, but for the reliability rather than the speed. Sky's previous 80M package for £27-£28 would have been ideal, but they can probably live with 40M)

Sky now charge £30.50 for the FTTC 80Mb variant so they probably don't want a package that is so close in price to the £32 package.

The 80Mb package is only £35.50 though after the 18 months, so bigger gap as time goes by.

Sky actually only sold it as Superfast for around £28 so depending on your line you would get 80/20, 55/10 or 40/10.

Currently it seems this is the speed grades and pricing they offer;
40/10 - £25
80/20 - £30.50
160/30 - £32
550/75 - £42
1000/115 - £55

Weird. It's still only offering me the 3 options I listed before.

I checked a few FTTP postcodes in a few different areas for Sky FTTP and as you say no 80Mbps FTTP option anymore.

Very odd, If you Google Sky Gigafast you can get the 1000/115 package to show up. If you go via someone like Uswitch you can get the 80/20 (£26)

Note; Tested this on a FTTP only area

Interesting, I just tried the same through uSwitch. Trouble is, this is an FTTC+FTTP area, so it's hard to be sure that it's actually FTTP that's being offered here. It just says "Sky Superfast Broadband" and "59Mbps average UK speed".

Hopefully you'd get some confirmation further down the order process though.

Given that Sky wouldn’t ‘sell’ ADSL to customers that were likely to receive poor speeds ,( sub 2Mb customers were told to use someone else ) the rationale being that it would negatively impact the ‘average speeds’ they could use in their adverts , and if the advertising authority use a limited interpretation of 80Mb ( including both FTTC and FTTP ) then the ‘average speed ‘ they are required to use in adverts may be diluted by having to include FTTC,
If they drop the 80Mb profile for FTTP ( or at least don’t advertise it and offer it only if the customer requests it ) and they encourage the take up of a speed only obtainable by FTTP , then the speed used in the advertising for that Ultrafast ‘band’ , can be pretty much the same as the headline speed, many will go for the faster speed, especially if the extra cost is relatively modest.

I'm in a FTTC and FTTP area and through the Sky website I'm only offered 40/10, 150/30 and 500/75. I can get Gigafast via an existing customer upgrade.

Hmm, maybe that was an experiment in the marketplace, because it's now changed back again:

£28 for 80/20 (then £35.50)
£35 for 160/30 (then £40)
£45 for 550/75 (then £50)

Still 18 months contract, £19.95 setup fee.
