new bt fibre ordered, a question about install please

[link to this post]

Hi there . Have ordered full fibre, have a concern that i need to deal with or may need to cancel , and can not really find a good answer. hope you can help .

At moment i have my bt router off an extension socket in a bedroom , with three ethernet connections to pc and consoles in same room . The master socket is in hall way down stairs, which was never good for me .

My house is 10 years old , is mid terrace and no poles outside , from what i read my fibre would be coming in from underground. I have the digital telephone connected to wifi too, so not sure if that gives any info .about my connection type .

I really would need the fibre to go where my router is now, due to layout of my devices . Do you think it is possible to have it installed in the bedroom , or should i just stay on my normal bt package ?.

If you are able to run a cat5/6 cable between the master socket position and the extension socket position you can have your set up as it is now. The ONT is like your existing master socket so that is where the router plugs in albeit via an as long as necessary cat5/6 cable. That is the easiest solution for you.. However if the bedroom wall is reasonably close to where the existing phone line comes into the house ie if the bedroom is above then a nice OR installer might run the fibre up the wall and in to the bedroom, contractors ie Kelly or Quinn will probably say no.
Without more info it's difficult to be more helpful.

Thank you for the reply . i get what you saying about running the cable it is an option for me , The line comes in from front of house, bedroom is at rear, so for them to do it, would be a pain, even if they would . I am thinking to just stay as i am now, just seems a lot of messing around for a speed increase of 50mb to 150mb. thank you

Not sure how far it is to your preferred entry point but perhaps the Openreach premium install is an option?

One of the available options is to "run more than 15m of external cable to reach the customer’s preferred fibre entry point."

Have a serious think about running Cat5e yourself. It is faily easy to install and if CW1308 is already there could follow/replace that.

Add an RJ45 socket at each end, two patch leads and that is it.
