Quantum Comms Group in my street

[link to this post]

I suppose like a lot of people on here I am anxiously waiting for the day of Fibre to the home. Currently have an 80:20 line which is pretty solid but still want to go faster.

We had some work at the top of the main street which i thought was Virgin Media cable being put in - which i don't want at all.

There was a Van in street today with men lifting man hole covers which I assume was looking for cabling routes - i assume it is Virgin Media but the company doing inspection is Quantum Comms and they list BT and other fibre providers but not Virgin Media.

Does anyone know if this might be my lucky day and full fibre is coming. I assume not as it's not mentioned anywhere that it is coming but Virgin does say it is...!

Cheers

Rob

We've had similar going on around here lately. Loads of vans marked "Opals". On their site they show BT on their website but now looking at local planning works it seems all the work is being done on behalf of UPP Broadband and Lightspeed Networks. I've currently with Zen and would like to stick with them but so far there's no sign of Openreach fibre coming any time soon other than "Before December 2026"

Just to update this we did have another bit of activity this morning. A BT Van turned up and seemed to pull through ducting or cables - I couldn't quite see as I was at the office and it was my wife and RING camera giving me updates.. My wife wouldn't be nosey asking what they are doing smile

But it was definitely BT vans this time... Perhaps it was just repairs but seems odd.. My exchange has no indication that FTTP is coming thought it just says

The exchange is not in a current fibre priority programme

WLR is currently available at the exchange

SOADSL is restricted at the exchange

FTTP is not available.

Anyway will have to wait and see I suppose..

Definitely BT? Not Openreach?

My exchange never did say it was a 'priority' one as my fibre 'headend' exchange were the fibre comes from is 12 miles away not our local one at 3 miles.

Go and ask them what they are doing.

Picture of Van, the manhole they were in and a screengrab from that works website

Sorry yes Openreach.. I would have asked them but I was in the office and my wife has little interest in these things. She at least took a photo smile

Never heard of that site but thanks for link - the works all seem to be Virgin which sits with what i thought.. so no idea what BT were doing.. there..

Openreach fibre builds are not limited to just the fibre priority programme, as it says in their document "It does not show FTTP deployment related to BDUK, new sites/retro new-sites and other smaller scale programmes or infill".

Ok thanks.. I assume it could be just as likely they were pulling through a new pair or something. As they literally only opened up two holes on our street and didn't seem to work anywhere else..

I have watched Openreach engineers pulling a fibre cable with Virgin stamped all over it, through their ducts.

It could also be spine work, leased line work... various things which are not FTTP.
