Stumbled across this video today about the many cable landing stations & potential intercepts across Cornwall - Thought it might be an interesting share!

Here's the landing last September of the latest transcontinental link to Cornwall - Grace Hopper - owned by Google, due to go live by end of this year. 352 Terrabit/s total cap.

Cool to actually see them. We have have a unit next door to where I work in Lowestoft which is something to do with EuNetworks which I believe is a Cable Landing Station

That would be the Scylla cable to Ijmuiden in the Netherlands that went live last August. More on it here from euNetworks
There's also a new Zeus cable from Zayo out of Lowestoft to Zandvoort that looks like its going went live this month. More on Zeus here.

The linear series of chamber covers in front of each roller door is a bit of a giveaway. As is the huge aluminium ventilation grille in front of Unit 1 (Zayo) in place of the front office/reception window.
Unit 9 (euNetorks) have completely bricked it up what would have been the front window. There look like backup gen. exhaust outlets on the front facade there too. Same sort of sequential chamber covers in front of the roller door.
Anonymous is the order of the day!

If i click on the second link, then drag the man to the road, it puts me in a fish wholesalers shop.

wonder how the cables get to the sea from that location?
|
|
|

Probably very similar to what was described in the Cornwall video - the armoured cable which comes up the beach will transition to a land based cable possibly in a chamber quite near the beach. From there the land based cable continues on in ducts / chambers all the way to the landing station.

its more of a which route does it take question as the landing station building is some way from the coast with a housing estate and huge caravan park in the way.

Interestingly the EuNetworks building used to be used/owned by NTL so I expect theres some major ducting around there.

Using Google maps I think the cables might go along tower road under screwfix's yard and cross the a
A12 then go down the lane leading to Hammond's farm then to the shoreline. Based purely on access chamber positions in the road and verges.

I will have to watch that, but with a d blocker, because you tube ads are getting more frequent than ever.

Maybe the chap from the YT video fancies a Secrets of Suffolk follow-up...😂

I don't mind adverts, but when they come every 3-4 minutes, which is what YouTube is doing these days, it gets annoying. I can always let it play on the laptop top and leave it alone, while watching ti without adverts on my TV

New undersea cable to Perth, Australia now gone live:
Sub.co announced that the Oman Australia Cable (OAC) project between Muscat and Perth has gone live. The cable will offer direct connection to the Europe, Middle East, Africa (EMEA) region and Asia and is expected to provide the lowest latency path from Australia to EMEA.

I too find infrastructure very interesting, I'm sure Mr Putin does too ... though I can't see any way to protect vital cables or gas pipelines from attack.

A row of 4 chamber lids in the road outside each unit:

Yes and they actually don’t look that new either. Wonder how long each company have been in these units?
