Fibre now in the area

[link to this post]

Hi people,
Fibre is now available in my area and having preordered last Monday it is nowactive in my street.
We had a flurry of activity of fitting the cbt's then the splitters with last Sunday the poor guy under his umbrella splicing the lines in the underground box.
I will be leaving plusnet as they can't give fttp, the question is does ordering fftp automatically cease the plusnet line or is that somethin I need to do myself?
I am out of contract so no monies owing to plusnet, if I have to initiate the cease I suppose I should wait til the fttp is up and running in case of delays of fitting etc.
I also presume they just install a new fibre line over the road to my home and leave the current line in situe?

cheers
Lee

If its Openreach FTTP then I am surprised you can't get FTTP from them as they do sell FTTP to existing customers, it may be their waiting to install a cablelink.

Have you actually asked them? It doesn't show to order on their website, but it *is* available to existing customers. (Note however that migrating this way will lose your phone service and phone number - but see below)

You'll need to do it yourself, unless you order FTTP from Plusnet as a migration from FTTC, in which case they'll cease the FTTC for you as soon as FTTP goes live.

If you *do* want to keep your phone number, then order your FTTP from somewhere else as a new service. Then instead of telling Plusnet to cease the old line, you should port your phone number to a VOIP provider (e.g. Sipgate Starter). When the number port takes place, this will automatically notify Plusnet to cease both the phone line and the attached broadband.

Yes, the FTTP will be installed alongside your current line. If you are fed aerially from a pole, they may remove the existing copper drop cable and replace it with a single "hybrid" cable that has both a copper pair and a fibre.

Sadly it was an altisp, I've checked using a post code from another area that was already live, with the same altisp, they also have BT,talktalk, zen and EE available there may be others as well gave up after those few.
I looked at BT prices I got a 720 up and down for £43p/m, BT was £45 for 500 down and 73 up or £55 down and 110 up for £54.99 .
Just means I have to make a new hole lol

Just spoke to Plusnet, system their end says not available in my street yet, their router is wifi according to the sales rep lol when I looked online it is wifi 4 and 5, told the guy to lead with the 5 in future might not get so many shocked customers

What’s the name of this mystery Alternate Network and postcode?

I’m curious as if they indeed offer BT (retail) on a 720 Mbps symmetric basis this is, as far as I know in the UK unique on all counts?! 😎

So Openreach FTTP is not available at your address yet but an altnet now has FTTP available at your address? if I remember correctly you're in Clacton.

I used a different post code last week for a live fibre area, CO15 3RT number 51 was the example. Showed Be fibre, BT, talktalk, Zen and EE available, may be more

Ahh OK so it’s BeFibre and not BT. That makes far more sense.

Don't think I said it was BT lol
Is that normal for an altisp to install then others available?
