I just had a thought

[link to this post]

As I have said in other posts, I noticed openreach doing some stuff on their poles in a couple of roads near me and also seen ZZoomm around here, in fact at the top of my road. I have just been outside, and I saw a cherry picker down the road at another telegraph pole.

Now where they are doing work on poles, there are flats, so I presume, but I could be wrong that zzoomm is using the poles for flats as they are two-story flats and the downstairs flat have the front garden, upstairs the back garden, so I it really not go down well Zzoomm digging in somones garden who is not having zzoomm.

I also take it that zzoomm would not be allowed to touch the openreach stuff on the poles and that is why openreach is putting equipment on there.
I live in a house, presume they would not use poles to get to me.

I could be wrong about this, but it is the only thing that makes sense, it would be one hell of a coincidence for openreach and zzoomm to come up here and start laying fibre at the same time.

i am going for a walk into town soon, so if I see anyone to chat to, I will, that is if I can get moving.

How does your existing service get in? If it is duct then openreach would probably use duct, if overhead then that is probably what openreach would use.

However, Zzoomm may use poles even if there is ducting as they may consider it an easier solution. I think I have seen posts others have put on that say Zzoomm have installed poles rather than use existing ducts.

Other providers who use Openreach PIA can install equipments once their staff or contractors are suitably trained/certified. I've seen CityFibre installing their own fibre DPs on Openreach poles.

It depends, for premises with direct-in-ground feeds it can be less expensive to stick up a pole rather than having to dig and install ducting.

It may be coincidence but Openreach do have a habit of turning up whilst or shortly after other providers have installed fibre, especially if it doesn't involve a huge amount of civils work, e.g. fully ducted estates.
I imagine that if they miss the opportunity and a significant number of residents switch to a provider not using Openreach infrastructure there then isn't much incentive to put fibre in place for 18 months to two years, there would be little takeup until the fixed-term period on those contracts have expired.

Poles can be installed by openreach for an alt-net using PIA if the original copper is Direct In Ground and not in ducting. That is happening the other side of my town, and in Surrey (was an article on ISPreview as residents dislike the poles).

It is all over head here, I chatted to the bloke on the way back home, he was at the top of the pole on the cherry picker and had a roll of fibre I presume with Hexatronic on the drum . He said he is zzoomm and that the openreach people had nothing to do with them, so yes it seems as if we will have openreach up here and zzoomm.
Seems like once zzoomm started to roll out here, openreach wanted to be in the action.

He asked me where my house was, I pointed, right on the top of the hill, he said they should be here in the next couple of weeks.
I hope zzoomm does well to be honest, out of reach seemed to only be here because zzoomm is, if zzoomm was not here I doubt out of reach would be anywhere near. i know there was a list a while back saying that Out of reach was coming to Hereford, but I still doubt they would have moved that quick.
the strange thing is, why up here? I thought they would have gone for the larger estate first, there is an estate on the other side of the river that is massive. Maybe they think people have more money up here as the large estate do have a lot of people in the lower pay bracket, not that I am in the higher end bracket, nowhere near it.

I suppose we will wait and see, not that i can change for another 12 months, but at least it gives them time to sort out the problems, they have a load of them

i have read the other replies,
