BT FTTP outage affecting 600 people

[link to this post]

Hi all,

We’ve had no FTTP since Saturday early morning (PON light red) and BT are suggesting a repair date of the 9th August. Apparently 600+ people are affected by this ‘major service outage’.

We are in LE8 (Leicestershire). Anyone know what is the cause?

Thanks

Also in LE8 with no issues on FTTP here...

No MSO information showing for BT/Openreach in the area.

Odd. We’re in Great Glen. Just got off the phone with BT Faults and they have reiterated that it’s a major exchange fault affecting hundreds of people. They hope they can fix it in 48-hours, however they said that on Saturday.

I knew I should’ve stayed on FTTC!

Industrial action Friday and Monday with many staff not taking emergency callouts over the weekend either. I expect it will be picked up today but if its fibre damage it maybe a bit longer to resolve

Thanks. Seems you’re right.

Just bumped into an Openreach engineer who was working in a pit. He said that rats have chewed through the main fibre cable. Hopefully will be fixed by tomorrow.

Rodent damage: not commonplace (thank goodness) but not unheard of either. Hopefully they can repair it reasonably quickly, but could be complex if they need to get roads closure / street works permits etc.

We were back online at around 1pm today. Spoke to the engineer and they had to do a fresh fibre pull + splicing between the two underground CBTs. Sadly, rodent damage occurred at the same place, through affecting FTTC spine a couple of years ago. Don’t suppose there’s much they can do to protect the network from nature. I’ll be upgrading to Halo 3+ for the 4G backup as BT ironically still haven’t got around to sending out the 4G hub.
