Fibre in the wild west

[link to this post]

After having the roads up for 6 months around Torpoint in Cornwall, Wildanet have started installing FTTP to all of the town. Basic service is from £25 pm without voice.
I was surprised that the supplied Smart /RG SR400ac router was locked down and no way to change anything. After 3 weeks I have finally been set up by using my own router using that box's external MAC address for authentication.
Are any other fibre installers doing this or are Wildanet on their own

Some are, some are not. Toob for example have a statement on their support website (www.toob.co.uk/support):

Yes, you may use your own router or mesh solution if you prefer. Please ensure you follow any set-up instructions from your mesh provider to ensure compatibility first.

You should always keep your toob router to hand so that we can provide you with any remote assistance if required
