Hello can anyone help here. I have changed iOS from BT fttp to Zen fttp when I try an pppoe connection straight from the Ont to the pc it won't connect with dial up connection.
It worked with previous isp BT bit won't connect, it connects ok with the ip router but not on pppoe am I missing something out here !?.

So it works using the CP supplied router, but not when you make a direct PC to ONT connection ?
Then the likely cause is that you haven’t set up the connection details correctly in the PC.
Can you post what settings you are currently using please ?

That is, you probably need to set or change the VLAN ID (tag). And of course, the username/password has to be correct.

There is no VLAN tag on the ethernet connection from the ONT. It is dealt with internally by the ONT.

Some ISPs require the PPPoE session to carry a VLAN tag when presented to the ONT.
Sometimes that's even "VLAN 0", so that the packet can carry 802.1p QOS bits whilst remaining untagged (the same bytes carry VLAN ID and QOS bits)

I made the assumption (never a wise thing to do) that both services were Openreach FTTP which has no VLAN requirement at the router. The OP is somewhat lacking in detail, if the ZEN service is via City Fibre things could be different.

The login details are correct im gettimg an error 691.
Im don t use a vpn, it previously worked on BT four weeks ago, but won't Connect on Zen!!!.

It works on isp router, but won't pppoe dial up.

Random guess, could it be DHCP not PPP ?

Is your new Zen FTTP connection using an Openreach ONT, or Cityfibre?

|
It's on openreach.

The login details are correct im gettimg an error 691.
I think that's a Microsoft dialer error (which I remember from old dial-up days), which just means "it didn't work".
You may be able to get a more information by running Wireshark on your ethernet port and monitoring the packets. Does a PADI get sent, do you get back a PADO, do you see the PPPoE negotiation start up, does LCP/PAP/CHAP authentication succeed, does IPCP negotiation succeed? Wireshark will decode the packets for you.

Just make sure you’re using the correct PPPoE credentials to login. Verify with Zen if needs be.
Try also using another machine to make the direct connection. It could be a client specific problem.

Thank you, I tried it on the laptop it still wont connect it still gives an error 691. I'll verify the login details on Zen.

It may be worth asking about using a third party router with Zen in the dedicated Zen section of this forum as I know a number of users there who do exactly that.

To add, I had exactly this problem with IDNet, it would never connect when direct to the ONT from a PC, same error from memory. Worked fine from the router. The same laptop had previously connected direct to the ONT when it was a Cerberus connection.
Of course user name and passwords were checked and double checked and many settings played with in the dial up properties, but it would never connect.
I've moved ISPs since but never tried it again.
IDNet had me going over Zen backhaul, so might be something to do with Zen.

Never had an issue, with either Cerberus or TTB but used macOS rather than windows for testing the PPPoE connection

Contacted Zen they had me doing all kinds of internet changes, they then changed the password login and it worked first go problem solved.

Great. Possibly something was cached somewhere and the password change forced an update.
