BT to City Fibre (Zen)

[link to this post]

I am presently with BT FTTP 900.

City Fibre have not dug up the road and laid fibre but say it is available to me. Does that mean that City Fibre have an agreement to use the BT infrastructure and fibre from the connection on the pavement outside my house that I am using presently? What happens when you migrate away from BT. Do they come and remove the ONT in my home? I know they want the router back, do they also want the two free digital phones I got as part of the package for use with the router. (No copper line anymore)
Thanks

They can use Openreach ducting and poles, but they cannot use Openreach fibres. They'll pull their own cables, and install their own ONT.

No. It remains in place as-is, in case you want to reactivate service later from any Openreach-based ISP. You should leave it in place, but you can power it off. Cityfibre will install their own ONT, connected to their own fibre.

That question is for BT rather than Openreach.

In short, if you "forget" to return them they might not notice - but you also might not be able to use them with your new provider. It depends exactly what type of handsets they are (e.g. DECT?) and whether the new provider's router supports it.

Handsets are not listed here so no need to return.

CityFibre use PIA from Openreach to share ducts and poles in some locations.

If you are in Scotland then I don’t think they do and it is all their own underground build, the Scottish cities have been in build for a good few years, but I think Zen has only just been adding them, so it could be the work was done a while ago?

On the BT side when I had to return equipment on the move to FTTP they didn’t want the handsets back.

Cityfibre are using PIA in parts of Edinburgh, Glasgow and Inverness.

Like everywhere they started by digging and have mostly switched to PIA.

Thank you to all who responded. These comprehensive replies make things clear to me (and anyone else wondering about moving from one FTTP provider to another)
