YouFibre Installation

[link to this post]

I wrote this elsewhere but thought it might be useful to any of the good people here curious about it.

It's all PIA, there is a splitter node in the Openreach pit closest to us with a CBT fed by that splitter in another pit, so the fibre goes from the CBT in a neighbouring pit past the splitter node then to the property, about 70 metres.

The existing Openreach duct was used with a very, very tidy bit of work to spur off and feed the Netomnia CBT.

Swift trip along the wall under the window:

Then, on the fence side of the bay window, out of view from the front door, a little loop and into the brick:

The cable cover on the other side is underneath the desk, well out of view, paint chips not their fault:

It goes into a flange and patch cable where it makes its way into a cabinet and the ONT, the device on the left as you look at it, on the shelf:

The ONT itself is an Adtran 622v, provided because the 10G port was needed. They'll provide this if you take their phone or 10G service else it's a 621i.

Great install from YouFibre's contractor Nanofibre.

YouFibre Service

[re: XGS_Is_On] [link to this post]

The YouFibre service itself is great.

https://www.thinkbroadband.com/broadband/monitoring/...

Download is solid, upload is slightly off but that's due to my equipment, not YouFibre.

The CityFibre build arrives soon but is a bit late to the game smile

That speed-test result looks somewhat asymmetrical . . .

Yes indeed. Think I've misbehaving SFPs. The support guys have been helping a ton. No evidence of faults on their side so suspect I'm hitting the kind of obscure issues that many will find as our connections get faster.

Looks like some curiosity with speedtest.net. The below is during an iPerf3.

Just had a letter from Netomnia about their installation starting soon (looks like mid November given the planning info on roadworks).

How much is residential 10g from YF? Their other prices are significantly better than Openreach based suppliers.

is there a way to check when Fibre roadworks are happening in my area?

I see Openreach vans here quite often.

Don't know about price, but would be interested to know how they manage contention, as in theory one user could saturate the whole PON. I expect in practice the number of 10G customers who saturate their link for extended periods on a regular basis is quite low, but hopefully there is more to it than that
