Block of houses missed from rollout.

[link to this post]

Hi all,

Bit of a strange one.

My town has now been cabled for fibre, CBT on all poles (including the one connecting to my house).

But it seems as though OpenReach never finished the connection to two poles outside the property serving around 10 houses. The rest of the street, both up and down, are able to order. Same for all streets in front and behind.

It just seems as though they never finished our connection.

It’s particularly odd as houses on the next pole are fine.

Trying to get an answer out of Openreach is like pulling teeth, they refuse to reply to any emails.

Any ideas on what the problem may be?

Cheers!

If you’re confident to put up a postcode / street, then one of the kindly folk on here will possibly be able to have a look into it for you.

Otherwise what does the Openreach and/or BT Wholesale checker state for your address (and that of your neighbours that can order FTTP)?

The checker says FTTP on demand.

Postcode is CT14 9DR. It’s a very strange situation as even within that postcode people can order new lines, but that is because they on a separate drop, that’s further along the road from the exchange.

I did have a reply from Openreach before saying that it is coming, but they miss their own dates very frequently; 3 times so far this year.

Some poles are marked as"D" (defective) and can't be climbed.
Depending on the defect it may be that the pole needs replaced before new/additional infrastructure can be placed on it.

It's a normal occurrence for D poles to be skipped during the initial rollout, the pole is replaced at a later date and then service is provided shortly after this.
All the dots don't always line up as they should.

If you can reach the base of the poles have a look and see if there's a D plate on the pole.

This pole has been climbed and has had CBT’s installed.

Since the installation other engineers have been using the pole for normal day to day issues on FTTC connections.

So unless it was condemned after that, I’m not sure that’s the answer.

I completely glossed over the mention of CBT being present.
It either failed the final audit/commissioning stage or it's a database issue.

Seeing as though you've already tried asking Openreach then a quick email to the CEO's office gets dealt with pretty swiftly by the High Level escalations team.
Will be quickly passed on to whoever is in charge of the local project and you'll get an answer within a few days in my experience.

Lovely, cheers.

Does that normally work?

Double checked and no markings on the pole.

You will get a quick response and if it a database error then sorted quickly too.

Forrest0746

Are there CBTs on both poles or just 1.

Is the fibre curled up on the pole, connected down the pole into the ground or strung along the road to the next pole (213 direction where they can order)?

CBTs come pre connected to the fibre but this has to be connected back through the network and spliced in at a previous splitter node.

Thanks everyone.

Just wanted to say I took the advice above and emailed the OpenReach CEO.

I received a reply the next day from someone on their executive complaints team saying they would have a reply within one week, the 2nd of November.

Magically I received a message from Openreach this Saturday saying that Fibre as now available to order.

Not sure what the issue was on why it took the executive complaints team to get involved but it seems as though 6+ months of chasing was sorted in just under 4 days.

900+ ordered and now waiting a couple of weeks for the install date.

So thanks everyone!
