After years in the waiting for full fibre as part of an Openreach Community Fibre project, we were finally able last week to place an order. An Openreach engineer turned up today to run cable from the nearest distribution point to the house, but alas he didn't know where the distribution point was and he couldn't find it either! What makes this all the more strange is that the contractor Openreach used to do the final work on getting the distribution point installed was done only two weeks ago today. So as they couldn't find the distribution point they've just left without doing anything. Aaargghhh!!!!

Are you served by overhead or underground?

Are you served by overhead or underground? I thought CBT's had a 8 character unique identifier and maybe wrongly assumed there would be some app that had their geographical location.

Are you with an ISP that is paying out compensation for every day your installation is delayed by?

There is, and it is reasonably (though not always) accurate.

We're served by underground ducts. All good though, we've had 2 further visits from Openreach engineers this week and today we finally got a cable up to a little box on the outside of the house ahead of final go-live next week. We were given a provisional go-live date of 18th Nov when we placed the order last week so with the external work done hopefully Giganet will be able to confirm that date.

We're going with Giganet and the provisional date they gave us when we placed the order was 18th Nov so with the external work now done hopefully that should become a firm date.

Well that’s good news. Hopefully the internal connection will be straightforward for you!

Let's hope so. The new box has been fitted on the back of the house where the existing copper wire comes in but the master socket and router are in the sitting room at the front of the house. The existing phone cable is therefore tacked under the eaves all along the side of the house and around the front to the current master socket and the fibre will really have to follow the same route as there's nowhere the ONT and router could sensibly go at the back of the house. Hopefully that won't be a problem for them. I did ask the Openreach engineers about this yesterday and they assured me it wouldn't be a problem even though I'd much rather they had run the cable to the front of the house and fitted the external box near where the master socket is, but their job sheet said install external box next to where the copper comes in and that's what they did.

All's well that ends well. Giganet full fibre 150 went live on Friday

Cool. Presumably they sited the ONT and routed the fibre cable where and how you wanted?

Yes they did. It made for a longer install visit than normal but the engineer was great and no problem at all for him.
