Fibre install to inside my garage

[link to this post]

Swish Fibre are pencilled in to start laying cable in my street in January. I have an empty duct that goes from the edge of my property next to the existing BT junction box, under my drive and comes up inside my garage, exactly where I'd like to terminate by broadband.

Is there a requirement to have a termination point on the exterior of the property that can be accessed by an engineer without coming into the house or will Swish be willing to terminate on the internal garage wall?

Cheers,

Garan.

I suggest that you call the Swish 0800 maybe someone there can tell you about their installation procedures, as there are no useful details on their website.

I think you'll be fine, small providers are far less likely to be really dogmatic in terms of how things are installed. I can't see anybody objecting to pulling an outdoor cable through a duct into a garage space and putting the CSP in there.

I'm aware of a development in London where OR for example installed several CSP's in garages where the original cable was ducted directly into the garage

Trooli installed mine in the garage and from there, i ran a cat5 to a switch internally to various stuff and an access point.

Yes. This is what Swish did for me with a car port that is not physically connected to the house but that I already had CAT6 running to for an AP. In fact, the engineer didn't even set foot in the house to do the install. I bought a weatherproof lockable enclosure to put the Swish ONT, a PoE splitter and a small switch (so I could run WAN & LAN over the same CAT6 back to the main router in the house) into and the engineer was happy with that solution. So long as the engineer can plug the Plume pod in to the ONT and show it working then they'll be happy, tick their box and go on their merry way.

How can you run wan and lan over the same CAT6?

Using a (port based) VLAN essentially.

Thanks everyone - I'll keep an eye out for the installers. I'm going to rod the duct over Christmas to double check that it's viable and hopefully I'll have the easiest and neatest install in the street early in 2023.

so a managed switch would be needed for this, I had a quick search last night when I saw your post and found some info in this, but the info I got was that it may not be reliable due to interference and other problems.
I just thought if I did have to go to fibre, it would help with a problem I would have.

Thanks for the reply.
