FTTPoD quote increase - and is it coming anyway?

[link to this post]

In Early August I received a build cost for FTTPoD quoted through Cerberus Networks. The total was £11,622.
I intended to proceed with this quote, but unfortunately, the 30 days expired before I could make the commitment to proceed.

I was told that I needed to request a requote and paid for a second survey in October.
The new quote has come through with a build cost of £21,858.00!

In the meantime I have noticed what might be openreach equipment installed on our poles - no CBTs in evidence though.

Any helpful suggestions?

That IS Openreach line plant, but copper, NOT FTTP

That's helpful actually as implies the "just wait" isn't quite as close as I hoped it'd be.

Still shocking price increase - which Cerberus say is a result of Openreach's new pricing models and that although they have asked Openreach to honour the slightly old pricing (for me and some other clients) they have so far been immobile.

I've sent a message to Clive Selley - looks like that's the only avenue remaining

Depending where you are and whether you'd end up with ECCs, 11 grand is roughly what three years of a leased line would cost.

I looked into this earlier in the year, and the indicitive ECCs were £10-15k - which is why I was going to go ahead with FTTPoD (as this was in the same price range, and lower monthly)

Even looking at the new price the 3 year price is probably lower than a leased line ECCs factored in - and doesn't require a new install at the end of the period.

Definitely worth chancing your luck through the escalations team - You've nothing to lose, especially when the cost has doubled that much with no real enviromental change.

Of course for Openreach their data could of been incorrect/incomplete for the old quote or they just don't want the business...(which if they want to focus on their native roll out, is the most plausable).

£21k sound like rip off rather than old pricing £11k. I would wait for FTTP to come. Don't bother with FTTPoD cos Openreach will be laughing at u with their profits money.

Some people can't and won't wait for the OR FTTP build to come.

Where I live FTTPoD is looking like the only way of getting FTTP before 2030 as our OR build date seems to have gone from 2021-2025 to 2026-2030 for the build window.

Gigaclear are supposed to be coming in 2023/2024 but who knows.

So I'm currently waiting on Cerberus to provide me with a further update on pricing.

But £21K? I will not paying that! I must be crazy and madness if I did pay OR £21k to bring FTTPoD in my property. I can wait until 2026 for FTTP.

FTTC are fine for now 80/20.
