Kings Bromley fttp upgrade fiasco

[link to this post]

It is just coming up to a month since BT attempted to upgrade our line and we have not had a broadband service since, being stuck on 4g and working from home is not ideal. Subsequent endless calls to BT and so many promised resolution dates, but still no service.
Just after chopping away the old copper cable the open reach engineer informed me that there were some known issues in the area. Have since found out that one neighbour has been without service since the start of September and it's now nearly Christmas!.

Is this a common problem with fttp upgrades?

I have never heard of the Openreach engineers removing the copper service, especially before the FTTP is up and running. Did they say what the known issue in your area is?

When the open reach guy installed the little box on the wall there were three green lights, but modern did not connect - orange light. Initially there was some back and forth between open reach and BT.
I have asked about going back to copper and told there is no turning back.

We have never really been give a clear picture of the problem. They have mentioned 'head end issue'
The problem has also been classified as a Major service outage - no idea what that means really, other than every few days I get a call with a new estimated fix date, latest one was 15 Dec (2 days ago)

I presume this had just gone live? I guess a connectivity issue between the fibre terminating equipment ( headend) and the CP connections. If you were the 1st to connect then I guess its treated as a non service affecting - failed provision, so not the highest urgency.

I'm not quite sure of your definition of 'gone live is' but my service has never worked since the line was installed on 22nd Nov. In the local area there are some properties who are on FTTP and are working. Though there is around 8 properties (that I know of) with the same issue as me.

Really at a loss as to what to do next, just wait like some of my neighbours who have been in this situation for 3 months? I don't think we should have had our line replace if there were know issues.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

i.e. "FTTP has been made available to order in your area." If you were the first to request an upgrade, then you're the guinea-pig, and things may go South for you if it turns out the network wasn't built or commissioned properly (as it seems to be in this case).

For a copper to FTTP upgrade, you'd think they wouldn't remove the copper before proving the FTTP service... but sadly not. It's been rough for you, but at least you should be in line for a hefty compensation payment.

I think this is another reason why people should order FTTP as a separate standalone service, and then cancel the copper afterwards (via transferring their phone number to a VOIP provider, if they want to keep their phone number) - but there are cost implications for that, especially if you're within an existing contract.

Thanks for the response candlerb.
Yes I just keep adding up the £8.40's per day.
Frustratingly received an email at the weekend saying 'my one month trial of full speed fibre is coming to an end' I've not received a single packet of data never mind full speed smile

The service seems to be relatively new in the area, sounds more like some kind of hardware fault in the exchange following the last call, mentioned floor x, cabinet y, port z.

Really would be good if the service could be provisioned separately, and kept the copper service for a little while, was not given this option.

Have you spoken to the other neighbour's who are affected? are they also using BT Retail as their ISP or they using another ISP like Sky, Talk Talk or Vodafone?
