Ordering FTTP

[link to this post]

When you have the ability to order FTTP and you are aware that as you have a while before your existing contract runs out, your options seem to be limited to running with your existing ISP. What is likely to be the outcome from a phone call to your ISP for this new service?

Specifically would you:
1) be advised of all the broadband speeds available and their cost?
2) have explained your options with regards to to your existing analogue phone line and retention of its number?
3) be told about price rises there would be, and when, during the new contract period (not just the bland statement of x% + CPI)?
4) be advised what happens about your existing contract?
5) the consequences, and cost, of choosing another ISP?

Your options are staying as you are until the end of your contract, sign up for a FTTP connection with the provider you are with, they will go or should go through the prices rises and any other info, and don't forget that you will no doubt sign up for a longer contract as most FTTP are 24 months contracts. The last thing you can do is buy out your contract and go elsewhere, but that could be expensive, depending on how long you have got to go.

If you want to go FTTP then give your provider a ring, you never know they give you a good offer.

I've just done this today. I didn't look to change providers as I only renewed my contract last month when FTTP wasn't available. I was asked if I had an alternative means of contacting 999, I was told the 2 new speeds available, I was told the original price and what my contract price would be, it was also explained about the price rise once per year. My new 18 month contract last year has now become an 18 month contract from today. Happy to stay where I am as it seems to be far cheaper than what is on offer elsewhere. Some ISP's will buy you out of your contract, mine did when I migrated to them 19 months ago, although it was only 2 months away.
