Full Fibre Installation query - no ext wall for cable run

[link to this post]

Hi

Question re new FTTP install. Any advice would be welcomed

On checking website any new install will be fed OH to rear of the house but I live in a mid terrace will a full length rear extension - bifolds and sloping roof the whole way across.

Checking other installs in my area. New cable connects near roof and runs down vertically to ground level junction box to come into property. This isn’t possible on my house as there is no wall.

Any clue how an engineer would go about connecting.

Front of my house is much better but can’t imagine they would run cable over the top of my house? We also have a loft conversion so not even a loft space to run a cable through to other side of the house.

Thanks

Either terminate on the first floor, or if there's access, run down the side of the rear extension and terminate in there. Those are my best guesses if I'm picturing it right.

How does your phone line get to you currently? Presumably it attaches to the house and was put in before the rear extension was built? Is there any rear access to your property to get a Genie lift in?

They might be able to attach the fibre to the single storey extension with some pretty nasty looking bracket designed to get a bit of extra height (https://www.millsltd.com/default/external-overhead/bracket-51.html). It really depends on where you're situated and your own preferences for aesthetics - I'm sure if you wanted to dig your own new ducting in that option could be explored.

Not sure if this worked by I tried to add a pic of house. There isn’t any space really to terminate as the old BT line is now buried inside the extension.

A problem you have now is that your existing installation cannot be maintained either as there's no sensible way for an engineer to get to your current bracket. I would wait for FTTP to become available and then the first install appointment will probably fail and get kicked back to a "real" Openreach engineer who can then try and solve the problem.

Appreciate the response.

FTTP is avail now as a few of my neighbours have it connected but I guessed my install would be harder due to what we have discussed.

Tbh i don't 'need' FF just wanted it, so until the old BT/FTTC line fails or they switch it off I will stick with my 45mbps

I was hoping the new line would have been fed to the front of the house and that would be much simpler...

Nice House.

There are a range of choices. On the left hand extension, 2m to the right of the existing cable, (if the neighbour doesn't object to a ladder in their garden. Then into the upstairs room or down the roof to the the side of the bifolds.

Where do you want it inside the house. This maf affect the route chosen.

Thanks!

Not overly bothered where it goes inside as it’s all open plan downstairs but limited on first floor as the two windows on the left is a bathroom.

Are they allowed to run cable down a roof? That would be easiest (before sky Q I used to have a sky cable running over the house down the roof and into house by green hose)

If that was possible the red line in picture would be most suitable.

What has hasn’t been mentioned yet is that the installer will have to deploy the Tetra ladder safely system … eyebolt drilled into the wall to anchor it etc etc.

Looking at your picture, I’d say ‘no’ to your suggested route. Are your neighbours to the right (as we see it) friendly ? Ladder up between their window and the boundary between the two properties …. eyebolt fitted, fibre to there … then down, along the side of your extension then across to where you wish it brought in …. BUT, they might decline. Definitely request a ‘premium’ install from your CP of choice … this may help.

That other suggestion of duct from the back of yours to the base of the pole is a good call … but it costs.

Good luck, and post back if and when a solution is found.
