Swish broadband CG-NAT

[link to this post]

Hi,

We currently have swish rolling out in our town and I've been looking into them as I'm considering switching from BT.

I've read is that they use CG-NAT. Is this correct and if so is there anyway they can disable it?

One of the main uses of our broadband is online gaming which I believe doesn't play nicely with CG-NAT.

Cheers

Chris (@Swish_Fibre) can prob. give you a definitive answer. But they will do you a static IP address for £3/mo extra, I think it is.

They also claim to have IPv6 in the pipeline, but there are no dates for it, and even if there were their track record for timely delivery is not exactly exemplary - see other posts on this forum.

Yep, I've gone for this and I have a public, static IP allocated. At first, the IP allocated was public but not static. One quick call to Swish support and this was sorted, although later when I changed my router my public IP changed too, so I suspect they are somehow tying address allocation to the router's WAN-side MAC address.

Swish Fibre 500Mb U/D
Unifi, tunneled WAN, Pi-Hole, Home Assistant

Yes your static IP linked to your WAN MAC, so if you change router you need to either let support know the new MAC or set your new router to spoof the old MAC.

I found that out after something went wrong their end and their system stopped assigning mine properly
