BQM with Litfibre

[link to this post]

Hi All

I have recently signed up with LitFibre in Welwyn Garden City and was trying to get the Broadband Quality Monitor setup. My router is an Asus Mini XD4 which I was using with Virgin connected to their router set in modem mode. The BQM was working OK in that setup after following the instructions on the BQM pages. Think I mainly changed ‘Respond ICMP Echo (ping) Request from WAN’ setting.

I now have the Asus router connected directly into the LitFibre ONT and don’t have any issues with internet connectivity. When I use ‘What is my IP address’ from BQM I get an IP address starting with 188 which I assume is correct however my router shows the WAN address starting with 100 which I assume is an internal address.
I tried both of these addresses but just get 100% packet loss.

Anyone know if there are other settings needed in the Asus router or is there something else I need to do to get BQM working with this setup?

Many thanks

LR

Litfibre probably uses CGNAT so your WAN IP is not unique.

you should have a unique IPv6 address. Try going to https://test-ipv6.com/ and see if it displays your IPv6 address. Use this in your BQM.

IPv6 is the way to go here, but if you use your PCs address then the BQM will only run when the PC is on. Pick the WAN interface of your router or something else that’s always on and ping to that.

Thanks for the replies.

Looks like I don’t have an IPv6 address. This is what test-ipv6 says

Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) appears to be LITFIBRE

No IPv6 address detected [more info]

You appear to be able to browse the IPv4 Internet only. You will not be able to reach IPv6-only sites.

To ensure the best Internet performance and connectivity, ask your ISP about native IPv6. [more info]

Your DNS server (possibly run by your ISP) appears to have IPv6 Internet access.

Ok I had to enable IPv6 in my router and now have an IPv6 address which I have entered into BQM and it seems to be working. I’ll leave it running for a few hours and check.

Thanks for the help

Make sure it's the IPv6 of your router and not your device.

I did get this working with BQM but noticed that the mesh nodes would no longer connect to the router. Can’t really see what other settings may be needed in the ASUS router so switched IPv6 off again until I can find out how to get all the mesh nodes working with IPv6 switched.
