"Out of Date" Pole

[link to this post]

Hi folks,

FTTP finally went live in the area last week. We had a BT install scheduled for today. The Openreach engineer came out; but he looked at the nearby telegraph pole and mentioned that it was overdue to be inspected and couldn't climb it for H&S reasons.

How common is this? And how long does it typically take for an inspection and reschedule of the install?

Kind regards,

Blair

He didn't mention a cherry picker.

He looked at the distance to the next pole over and swore a couple of times. He did some measurements and then said that he couldn't climb the pole; as it would be a sacking offence.

I've given BT a call and they can't give me a rescheduled install date.

Not really sure what to do now to be honest.

Well you get your missed appointment compensation and ~£6 a day from BT until they install. Your contract is with BT so they are who you need to chase.

They'll return with a picker. Its been my experience that that is a random day/event/time

So don't really worry about it as they'll do the install in 2 parts anyway now. You'll need to home when they schedule the internal cabling install.

As @jpm says they're on the hook (BT retail) for a missed appointment anyway, so just keep that in mind when your first bill gets generated.

Looking at some of the poles around here, I would not blame anyone for not climbing them. To be honest, thought this pole climbing thing ended years ago, I was shocked when I saw people climbing poles around here.
I hope they sort it out for you quickly.,

Or a pole tester will check it out and hopefully pass it.

They send the most overweight engineer they can find to climb the pole and email in a report; if the email comes from his van/office then it passed, if it comes from the local A&E then it failed tongue
