Yellow Fibre Labels on Poles

With work on the fibre restarting on Thursday: CBTs with their rolls of fibre were left in early January and a couple of new "intermediate"? poles erected at that time. Now some of the CBTs fibre disappears into a duct to adjacent manholes.

So curious as at what stage are the small yellow fibre warning labels affixed to poles?

As with all things FTTP related it would seem … no hard or fast rules … sometimes even never.

They are not an essential prerequisite of the service working.

as Zarjaz, you can't really tell - it can be weeks, months or years (years do exist).......

the cbt fibres have to be connected to a splitter...

I'm not sure as to why there should be a warning label, I think the ones on our poles where attached when the fibre went up the poles to CBT's, but as this all happened in days it's hard to be certain. What I would note is the pole was changed a few months back and whilst everything else was transferred across the label wasn't, as the old pole is now in my possession maybe I should finish the job for them and transfer the label. 😁

Why is that done? If someone is moving ladders or anything that reaches the cables will notice or should notice there are cables there anyway. I thought maybe it was a cheap way of advertising that you now have fibre available.

Maybe it’s was an “exception” 5 years ago, to have fibre overhead when there was very little in the grand scheme.

But as the mass rollout of FTTP progressively covers the country you can imagine that having fibre overhead will be the rule rather than the exception.

In the analogous way it’s slightly pointless having little signs saying “Caution Overhead Electricity” 🙃

Yeah fair do.

Never really saw the point of the overhead fibre warnings. It’s not like Farmer Giles particularly cares more whether his telehandler carriage twangs through a bit of fibre or copper. Don’t see “Caution Overhead Copper” signs.

Looks like Openreach have come to the same conclusion ultimately.

Except that, if Joe Public lights themselves up like the proverbial, then someone is going to make hay saying ‘well no one warned us’ …. dumb, but true.

Instead they will have to affix green labels to the remaining poles saying "Don't worry - no fibre overhead"
