Migrating from FTTPoD to FTTP - advice please

[link to this post]

A couple of years ago I organised a FTTPoD project for a number of local properties and we are all coming to the end of our twelve months ‘business rate’ contract with Cerberus Networks.

We will shortly be able to swap to FTTP at a much cheaper rate than the £90 a month FTTPoD rate we are currently signed up to.

Cerberus have offered to migrate us all to their consumer FTTP product, which is what I plan to do as Cerberus have been excellent.

A couple of people in our group would like to rejoin BT for various reasons - does anyone have any experience of how to do this? Can they just ask BT to migrate their Cerberus FTTPoD line to a BT FTTP line? I can’t believe it’s that simple…

Has anyone been through the process of doing this?

Thanks for any advice.

It literally is that easy - or for that matter any other ISP that will provide service on your Openreach connection. Put your new order in and it will be done.

Cerberus tried to levy a termination charge, but as there was nothing in my contract at the time - they credited it on appeal. Nice try though.

I'm still on Cerberus nearly 4 years after my FTTPoD was installed. The sweet spot in their pricing is 300/50: barely any more expensive that 150/30, but a good saving over 450/70 or 900/110.

Apart from them providing a good service, there's the benefit of a 12-month contract with no pre-baked price rises, either mid-contract or when it ends. Also remember that if you want a static IP address from BT, you'll need to go with BT Business rather than BT Retail.

There are many other ISP choices, and TBH I can't think of a single good reason to choose BT over any of those.

Thank you for all the replies. Sounds simpler than I thought it was going to be.

It is indeed that simple.
On the Openreach side of things it becomes FTTP the day it goes live.

Additional FTTP lines could have been ordered from day 1 or any of you could have even migrated your FTTPoD to BT on day 1 (though it would have come with a big bill from Cerberus for breaking contract early).

Nothing changes after a year and there's no hoping systems upgrade to reflect the FTTPoD period is over.

Cerberus had some initial issues (internal to their systems) migrating some customers from their FTTPoD product to their standard FTTP product but that was a few years ago and they have likely streamlined this process since.
