Anyway to expedite the Ultrafast Full Fibre Broadband build?

[link to this post]

I live in London and it's sods law that my current area is on the no build plans announced/We don't have any major plans to build in the exchange stage. Bit shocked to know the UK has just surpassed halfway yet the biggest city in the UK and in particular my area has no announced plans for any build at all ... well for the foreseeable anyway!

Is there anyway to expedite the build date by contacting BT/BT Openreach? I remember contacting someone within BT about expediting the FTTC build 10 years ago and that seemed to work back then.

Cheers!

It was expedited for FTTC by the Government throwing your money at it.

Not unless you have access to a large amount of funding or can apply significant political or commercial pressure .
The prospect of a major loss of revenue may help, but then if an altnet were about to build you wouldn't need openreach anyway.
Political pressure may get you some vague promises or reasons why you aren't in program but if you want to make a difference be in it for the long haul.
Outside of central London and the city ,London isn't a special case area. If anything, its the worst place to build new network just due to the density and cost of doing anything in the public highway , at least if you do it correctly .

Have you checked to see if Community Fibre/Hyperoptic/G.Network are coming to you?

The problem is there is no government schemes for urban areas, oddly they made it rural only as if they think only rural areas have not spots.

So you probably need to do a community run to try and get a group of people banding together and try to get Openreach's attention with that.

It depends what you mean when you say "London". If you look at the Openreach where and when page you'll see large chunks of the Greater London area have either completed FTTP or are in build or planned.

Central London is a bit different. Partly, it's because the infrastructure there is ancient, and the difficulty of doing roadworks as others have said. But also, Openreach and the other big fibre players get lots of revenue from business leased lines, and are loathe to kill the golden goose.

I used to work in a place in the West End, served from the Covent Garden exchange, where we couldn't even get FTTC, let alone FTTP. But leased lines? Not a problem sir.

As has already meen mentioned: check with Hyperoptic, Community Fibre, G.Network and others to see if you are covered or in their plans.

I also live in Central London, Aldgate East here. We've got Community Fibre and many areas here have Hyperoptic as well. Hyperoptic show interest to install on the website.
We're rolling out in your area

We're bringing our full fibre network to your area!
Before we can connect you, we'll need permission from the Freeholder or Property Manager - so be sure to let them know you're interested.
Check to see if you have something like this show up for you? Obviously, in my case my management team will not grant wayleave for Hyperoptic but did so for Community Fibre.

Openreach showed interest for FTTP in 2018 but my management team refused to grant wayleave.

My suggestion is to look through all the Altnets like Hyperoptic, Community Fibre, G.Network, The 4th Utility, etc and see if there are plans for your area and contact them via email. If they show interest then the next thing is to contact your local housing association management team to get them to sign a wayleave.

At the end of the day No wayleave=No fibre. Even if these companies are interested to build. You should also involve residents of your building to register their interest and apply pressure to your management.

Many places here have overbuilds with Community Fibre and Hyperoptic and some I've seen in Hackney have triple overbuilds Community Fibre, Hyperoptic and G.Network!

Contacting BT Openreach will make little different if your management doesn't grant wayleave and this will apply for all of the Altnet providers. Chances are, if there hasn't been a wayleave agreement for any of the Altnets, Openreach FTTP is an even lower probability.

Thanks for these suggestions!

How do these companies differentiate with BT? Do they connect the fibre directly onto their own network or do they use BT's exchange infrastructure in any way?

The property I live in, is a residential house and btw what is a wayleave?

I'm located in the area where there is no overlay of colour meaning there are no plans for any build :| Hence the whole point of this thread smile
