Accuracy of Openreach update information?

[link to this post]

I received an email from [email protected] on May 10th which stated:

"You let us know you're interested in Ultrafast Full Fibre, and we wanted to touch base with an update. We’ve added your area to our build plans and we’re on course to deliver Ultrafast Full Fibre to <my address> by Jun/2023."

Now we're only just into July but my question is, how accurate would this update be? It does of course say that this date could move.

Nothing is showing on the wholesale checker yet, but is that the right place to look?

You'd think that if it were that close all the infrastructure would be on your telegraph poles. Look out for the fibre CBT (google image search for "openreach fibre cbt").

There are are some coils of black cable on the telephone poles along the main road through the village, but in my road it's all underground cabling and I have not seen any CBTs being placed underground. I don't recall seeing CBTs on the poles either.

The wholesale checker shows FTTC (which I have) and FTTPoD (which I don't).

If its all UG then they'll be in chambers like mine is.

I never seen them installing into my street, but it doesn't take them very long

Yes, if you're out for a whole day and there's no blockages that require anything to be dug up you could easily miss the equipment needed for FTTP being installed into the chambers down a street. I never noticed when Lit fibre put the CBT into the chamber outside my house on a Saturday morning.

I received another email this morning from Openreach, the date has now been changed to be by September 2023, I don't know if that means 31st August or 30th September.

Probably explains why I have not seen any activity recently.

In reality it's not that precise at all, and possibly best to think of it as a *very* rough guide only.

Same here for my friend in Midlands. (suppose to be June 2023)

Hi ***********,

You let us know you're interested in Ultrafast Full Fibre, and we wanted to touch base with an update. We’ve added your area to our build plans and we’re on course to deliver Ultrafast Full Fibre to ***, **************** by Sep/2023.

We're rolling out Full Fibre to 25 million people across the UK – it's a huge, complex project, so it's possible the date could move.

We'll keep you updated as we progress and let you know immediately if anything changes.

Don't forget, with Ultrafast Full Fibre broadband you'll get:

Download speeds of up to 1000Mbps – that's ten times faster than the UK Average
Upload speeds of up to 220Mbps – perfect for gaming, video calling and uploading large files
An unbroken full fibre connection – that's five times more reliable than anything before
A connection that can handle multiple devices at once – whether you're gaming, binge watching, or surfing
The option to include a digital phone line and get ahead of the digital phone line upgrade

No more buffering streams or snail-paced downloads- just broadband that really is ready for anything.

Did you know?

You might not need to wait for the end of your existing contract before you can upgrade to Ultrafast Full Fibre – speak to your current service provider and they'll guide you through the process.

We're upgrading the UK's phone network, from copper lines to a digital phone line service. Most people who use a phone line will need to have switched to digital by 2025. When you order Ultrafast Full Fibre, you can have your digital phone line set up at the same time. Find out more about the upgrade from analogue to digital phone lines - Click here.

Once you've placed an order with your service provider of choice, we'll send an engineer to connect your Ultrafast Full Fibre – and it's a one-off installation. They may need to drill a small hole in your wall, or they may be able to use the same access point as your current line. Either way, they'll take care of everything and leave you with a broadband that's ready to deal with anything the future brings. You can find out more about what's involved in our handy video - found here.

Thanks,

Sam
