Zen FTTP vs Community fibre

[link to this post]

Just noticed community fibre hardware attached to the telephone poles on our road.

I’m currently with Zen over OR 900 package which on one hand is the best connection I’ve ever had - in 2.5 years I’ve not observed so much as a hiccup in service.

On the other hand, the PPPoE delivery is frustrating, resource heavy and limits my router choice without limiting speeds.

Community fibre is both cheaper, solves the PPPoE issue and gives me a significant bump in upload which would be very useful in letting me ditch my nas for cloud storage.

My question is, can I expect the same levels of reliability from community fibre? That is my main priority.

From the feedback from folks that have their service, I'd have no qualms about moving to them if they were available. One of the better AltNets definitely.

I have both OR and CF available, and am happy to recommend CF, which is technically a much better product. I've been a customer of both the gigabit and 3-gigabit products - both are good.

In reliability terms both are consumer services with no SLA. That's why I have a cheap Plusnet FTTP service via Openreach in addition to Community Fibre. I'd do the same the other way around if Openreach had the superior offering, because connectivity is not business-critical enough to justify a leased line but it does justify an extra £25 a month.

Reports from ispreview say that CF are now putting everyone behind CGNAT except those on their 3Gbps package.

At least you get IPv6, so traffic to Google/Youtube/Facebook will not be NAT'd.
