Moving to City Fibre

[link to this post]

Good evening - I have just signed my grandparents up to the new Vodafone City Fibre 100 services with Anytime Calls.

They are currently on a BT FTTC 80/20 Line (but not getting those speeds).

The install date in set for the middle of August - As we will be porting the landline over to Vodafone, will this automatically cease the BT broadband service?

Do i need to take any steps to ensure they continue to recieve internet should City Fibre not turn up on the day and delay internet, as i assume once the landline ports, it will cease the voice and internet connection, even if the install is not completed?

If it was me I would get the Vodafone City Fibre working first to an acceptable standard and then separately cancel the FTTC service perhaps by porting the number fo a VOIP provider.

Wifi via dongle or mobile phone can be a backup for voice and data.

completely agree but the op needs any time calls, trying to find a voip with that, is a fun experience ..

Thanks all - I've just had an email through from BT who were obviously notified by Vodafone soon after i placed the other in order to get the number transfered. Wish me luck!

Are you absolutely sure? Call charges are dirt cheap on say AAISP VoIP, you have to make a ludicrous amount of calls every month to break even on inclusive call packages.

Most people assume they need things like unlimited calls when they probably actually lose money on it.

I would endorse alexatkin's view 100%

AAISP + VoIP
