FTTP for block of flats

[link to this post]

Our block of 15 flats have been offered a free survey for installation of FTTP by Cityfibre.
Unfortunately they have asked us to sign a form saying we will go ahead before we have any information of the details of the installation. How cables are run etc .
This is concerning as we do not want to end up with surface run cables throughout our building. At present our mainly retired owners are happy with FTTC giving us adequate speeds for HD streaming etc.
Anyone had similar experience with Cityfibre or any views on what they are asking us to commit to?

Trouble is, it is nigh on impossible to answer your question, as every single scenario is different.

How does the copper currently get to the flats ?

I see a fair few blocks of flats where the FTTP has been retro fitted, seems to have been via ‘invisilight’ style installation, with small break out boxes above front doors.

Well that's not a 'free survey'.

Tell Cityfibre that their offer is not acceptable, and explain why. You could ask Hyperoptic if they are interested.

When I first read this I thought, no way can they expect you to do that but having thought about it some more, most people who have a new broadband services installed have surface run cables inside and outside their homes.

I would say you shouldn't have to sign up to a commitment until after the "free survey" is done. The survey will determine what is possible and how. As someone else said it isn't a free survey if you are required to commit to a contract before they will do it.

A number of things to consider

> By signing what are they agreeing too?
> No talk of any costs for the CityFibre infrastructure installation throughout the block
> No talk of all flat occupiers having to commit to signing up for the service provided over CityFibre

If above is true then it is free but with obligations to have free infrastructure installed but no requirements to use it.
