Existing Openreach (ZEN) FTTP - relocation of cabling

[link to this post]

I have an existing FTTP connection that, because of pending renovation works to my home, I need Openreach to relocate and am attempting to ascertain my options. Having spoken to my ISP Zen, I appreciate this will be chargeable.

As most of the proposed new cable routing will be at gutter level down the side of my home before descending to ground level I believe that I will require someone/body called the "Flat roof team" (normal engineers will not touch it) I am prepared to undertake leg work IE install PVC tubing with pull lines to mitigate work required by them.

Does anyone know what are the rules re siting the splicing box (grey cabinet) I appreciate that an engineer will not want to be dangling off a ladder (with expensive kit) to splice the cable but some of the installation I've seem are a shockingly unsightly "hodge podge" of spaghetti running all over the place (for instance down to box and then all the way back up)

I don't anticipate this is going to be easy to organise with Openreach (via Zen) so I wish to educate myself as to what is technically possible /reasonable( as opposed to what the engineer may find most convenient) before taking tentative steps to explore further

With this in mind, does anyone know what is the maximum length of Openreach FTTP drop wire (don't need hybrid as fully fibred) that is available to Openreach engineers? Additionally can this cable be routed within standard 1 inch (customer supplied) PVC tubing.

Any technical documents or links most welcome.

Thanks

Alan

If any help, our Openreach FTTP drop-fibre comes down our wall inside 20mm diameter standard electrical conduit. So no need for 25mm.

(The drop-fibre then goes through the same hole that our copper drop-wire did and 'splicing box' is located inside our garage, as requested.

Cheers!

Gutter level, along the side of the property …. is this above a flat roof ? If just at the top of the wall, then no mythical flat roof team required, just Tetra deployed, and normally skilled bods.

Hi Zarjaz smile - I was hoping that you might show an interest, as if my memory is correct, you have a close connection to BT et al

On the basis that a picture (or six) is worth a thousand words, thought it might be helpful to illustrate the issue.

Pictures hosted (temporarily) on OneDrive here

https://1drv.ms/f/s!AjkoX9hyzE55aqkOD_G78bDDnto?e=2w...

Picture One - shows front of house with FTTP top left (eaves) coming down front and then across barge boards on lower roof

Picture Two - shows FTTP cable taken into front covered area at ground level, the splicing box and then routed down right hand side of house through door frame.

Picture Three - continuation of routing from picture two (note sharp bend around bricks) and thence into externally accessible room where ONT is located

Picture Four - shows wider view of house. I would like FTTP to be mounted at eaves level on right hand side (note existing telephone cable from same pole to my lower neighbours home). I would like my new FTTP to be routed in conduit (installed by me) over windows/below soffit down side of house to soil stack

Picture Five - Shows existing cabling (Solar PV in conduit) and Immersion cable from my consumer unit. Plan would be to add new conduit down to follow path of existing cabling

Picture Six - shows side of my home - you can see existing FTTP cable. Hopefully cable could be routed through into room either via hole in brickwork or door frame as before

As to the location of the splicing box there is plenty of space within the ONT room

I'm hoping that with the appropriate pull cords in place and copious amounts of tea/biscuits my aims can be fulfilled. - I await feedback as to whether I am being realistic!

Cheers

Alan
