OR sub-cons

[link to this post]

Has anyone come across Morrisions doing FTTP installs for OR?

They turned up to do my neighbour and claimed "I need help" before disappearing and not returning. ANother case of "too hard so I'll get rid of it!"

Yep. Doubtless some old OR lag will be prodded into sorting it out.

They’re doing the duct unblocking and surveying work near me, our town is getting FTTP this year.

They’re also fitting CBT’s and associated equipment on poles too.

I’ve not seen many end customer connections so no idea if they’re also doing that here.

Almost certainly.

Yes, there is a carrier pole with 50 m spans betweenpoles and to house but everything else should be simple.

Morrisons Telecoms have been a tier 1 contractor for Openreach for some time and were awarded parts of the UK for the deployment of FTTP infrastructure. I hadn't heard of them getting their hands dirty before as they normally use sub contracts to do the actual work (these sub-contractors are typically referred to as Openreach tier 2 contractors). Maybe they are taking a different approach to it now but I had heard good things about some of their sub contractors.

They may well be subcontractors as the vans aren’t branded. The “working on behalf of openreach’ signs on the safety barriers was what I was going off as they mention Morrisons.

We’ve also got avonline networks installing in the area too on behalf of Nexfibre. It’s odd as they are part of the same group as Morrisons and they’re all working on competing contracts.

But for subbies a trench is a trench it doesn't matter whose cable goes in it afterwards.

Actually, it does. There are different deppths, distance from kerb, requirement for warnng tapes, or fibreglass boards ... SO, they will be told the specifics.

And Virgin have their ducts 50-100 mm before finished surface. BT & OR put theirsat a more sensible 350 or 600 minimum.
