Installation went well despite the weather and the poor engineer up the ladderl, new ONT with a 2.5Gb ethernet connection straight into my existing GT-AX16000 router.
getting from between 1.5 and 1.8 Gb depending on different test sites.

That's good but I know Openreach won't do any Symmetrical for some reason?

The upload is pretty sucky, but I'll live with it until they update it.

I agree it sucky, I doubt Openreach will ever do it, they more likely protect businesses for any symmetrical they are paying it.

Openreach will move to symmetric services when there's enough competition that they become an outlier. We're basically dependent on Virgin Media to offer symmetric services over Nexfibre before it might make Openreach change their product offering, and at that point I would expect them to introduce some sort of professional FTTP product with SLAs on fix times to try and limit the revenue loss from people moving away from Ethernet.

Because they want to sell leased lines to customers who want a symmetrical connection.

They will bring out an Ethernet over FTTP soon.
Ethernet over FTTC already exists.
Thanks

Max you know why.. gpon = 2.5gb download / 1.25gb upload .....
The question you should be asking is why OR is not pushing xgs-pon or 25gb pon now

I understood G.984.1 section 7 does actually specify 2.4/2.4 as an option for GPON? But I think it's true almost all implementations are actually 2.4/1.2.

Openreach have never sold EoFTTC and they won't sell Eo FTTP either.
It's BT Wholesale and others who take a standard Openreach FTTX product and sell it as Ethernet.
EoFTTP has been an offering for quite some time already.

Even if OR was 100% XGS-PON, EAD exista and the markup on that is *obscene* hence no symmetrical FTTP for anyone.
