FTTP in Haslemere

[link to this post]

Swish Fibre have been installing in Haslemere for a long time now. The main roads have Full Fibre cabinets but everywhere else seems to have stalled.

We had a visit from Openreach in early 2022 to survey how to run fibre to the house, they suggested we'd get it Summer 2022.

The availability checker still shows no predicted date.

How long are we likely to have to wait?

When an FTTP company is allocated a town for rollout, do they have an obligation to install all the roads, or only the ones they choose?

In most cases FTTP companies aren't "allocated" – they plan their own commercial rollout (as Swish has done). They can install to as many or as few roads as they choose. Obviously it doesn't make business sense to invest in backhaul to the town to only connect a few roads, so most providers will aim to cover the majority of the town.

I'm in Haslemere too and am connected to Swish. From what I can gather, they don't appear to be doing any more civil engineering work in Haslemere, meaning if you don't have a Toby Box installed by them outside your house already or your house isn't fed via an overhead cable then you're out of luck. For example, they laid fibre along my street in a duct but only installed a Toby Box for my property because I chased and chased after signing up. Now none of the other duct-fed properties can place an order, because there are no other Toby Boxes in situ.
