I may or may not want to initially keep the ont on one side of a room, and may be it move post cable tidyup. But what if i wanted to move it to another room?
what would be my best options.
p.s my hamlet's fttp status to being enabled may becoming to its final stages and no WI. but anyhooo fingers crossed.
p.p.s this is more of a "thinking out aloud" type post than anything

The ‘by the book’ answer, is that you contact your service provider and they will arrange to have it shifted.

You probably know what the other obvious non-by-the-book option is. If you go down that road, make sure you use APC type ends (and matching green connector) so as not to damage the existing ferules etc. Get a cleaning pen or cleaning cube to clean the ends, to be on the safe side. Hush. Don't speak of it to anyone 🤣

Will do .. yeah i did know of just using a patch fibre cable. I will probably double check at the time. I've never played with fibre so its like being newbie town.

I may or may not want to initially keep the ont on one side of a room, and may be it move post cable tidyup. But what if i wanted to move it to another room? Couldn't you site the ONT somewhere neutral like a cupboard and run out a long ethernet cable to your chosen router location be it in the lounge, hallway or kitchen. This way you're not messing with fibre.

Premitel do an optical extension kit. The optical cable comes in fixed lengths, with winding boxes to take up the slack.
I am facing a similar issue and have decided against this solution. Instead I have decided that the ONT position is a one shot decision which I must live with and I will cable to wherever with CAT6 ethernet. Essentially, your choice is to wire from the existing ONT position in optical and move the ONT to be near whatever or to wire to that same position in ethernet, but leave the ONT where it is. My preference is to work with ethernet.

Yeah thats the solution i was thinking of but i wanted to double check..........

well it will be about moving the ont to a different plug and being closer the network equipment. Presently i can't put the ont in that postion if i was to have fttp installed tomorrow. Hence, the cat6 cable route isn't the answer..

I had a somewhat similar issue when I had fttp installed. I had a tentative plan (still haven't got round to it 18 months later) to rearrange the room layout where the ONT is installed, which would involve moving the ONT to the other side of the room. The installation guys were quite willing to leave me about 10 metres spare fibre cable between the wall entry point and the ONT, and to leave the ONT free standing. The spare cable is currently coiled up in suitable sized plastic lunch box and tucked away for protection. So if you supply your guys with lots of coffee and biccies, they might be willing to do something similar. But I'm only thinking of maybe moving mine about within a room, not between rooms.

I had thought of asking for about 7m of cable for that job, but using an extension cable makes more sense if I do something stupid. I have got to change from unmanaged switches to managed ones, plus on top of that from 1gbe to a partial 1gbe/2.5/10gbe one. Plus AP and router changes. Plus the removal of the homeplug bridge - which is where the ont will eventually be plugged into
