EE 1.6GB Fibre Broadband: More Unstable Than a Jenga Tower i

[link to this post]

Hello peeps!

I recently took the plunge into the digital deep end and snagged EE's shiny new 1.6GB Fibre broadband, dreaming of zipping through the web at lightning speed. But alas, my WiFi is more like a three-legged tortoise on a lazy Sunday – slow, sluggish, and dropping out more often than a moody teenager.

Let's have a natter about the EE Hub. It's got the range of a walkie-talkie in a lead-lined basement. I've seen better interfaces on a microwave from the '90s. Navigating this thing is like playing charades with a robot – confusing and mildly entertaining in a "why am I doing this?" sort of way.

And the speed? My old TalkTalk service was like that reliable old car – not the flashiest but gets you from A to B without a hiccup. This EE service, though? It's like a sports car with a flat tyre. All show, no go.

Anyone else feeling like they're in a comedy sketch with their EE broadband? Tips, tricks, or just some good old commiseration would be much appreciated. Let's bond over our shared digital despair (whilst we wait for the pages to load).

Cheers and chuckles,

Scott (A Slightly Amused, Mostly Frustrated EE Customer)

Even with wifi 7 - which by the way the ee hub thing doesn't support - you will never get 1.6gbits via wifi on a single device. Secondly your devices can slow you down along with walls and other furniture.

Luv your description of your problem but all we know is that you have a problem with your wifi setup..

so maybe can we start again and explain the situation and maybe we can help.

We recently installed a 1.6GB connection, and for the first 10 days, it was a dream come true with wireless speeds hovering around 1100MB. But, our digital honeymoon came to an abrupt halt around the 19th of December.

Our speeds plummeted to 300MB for downloads and 120MB for uploads – a far cry from the initial performance. In a bid to solve this mystery, we've tried swapping out for replacement EE Super Hubs, but alas, the problem persisted.

Openreach paid us several visits, each time assuring us that the network was in tip-top shape and we needed to speak to the CP (Communication Provider) In a stroke of DIY inspiration, I went ahead and bought a new Asus router, hoping to bypass the issues of the EE Hub. This one boasted a 2.5GB WAN port, and following the advice of an Openreach engineer, we used a CAT7 cable. Initially, this seemed like the golden ticket we were looking for, but to our dismay, the improvement was short-lived, and we're back to square one with 300/120 speeds.

It's baffling, isn't it? When every logical step leads to a dead end, and even the experts are scratching their heads. I'm beginning to wonder if there's an unseen factor at play here, something beyond the usual suspects of hardware or network issues.

Sorry, I do creative writing and sometimes get carried away creating stories regardless of the topic smile

First thing to do - set up a TBB BQM https://www.thinkbroadband.com/broadband/monitoring/...

Then using a WIRED connection to the hub - NOT WiFi, run a series of speedtests: https://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest

Then after a day or so, post the BQM - snapshot and live link (all your personal data will be hidden) and links to the Speedtest result.

seconding this...

The reason MHC is saying go wired for the tests is that devices and location plays a huge part when speed testing via wifi - i know i'm replying to MHC tooo - but tis just to back up what he said

just an edit /update on what i said.

Some asus models have a 2.5gbit wan port and some have an extra 2.5gb lan port or 10gb one. if you just have a 1gbit lan ports on the router, what you will want to see is around 920mbits on the speed test.

anyways do what mhc says

The EE router has only a single 2.5gbit port which connects to the ONT so I don’t really think the speed can be tested directly by any device other than the router itself.

Obviously you should be able to get nearly 1Gbit from something wired to the 1Gbit ports.

The OP has brought an asus router, which has at least 2.5gbe wan port, i don't know which model to comment further. But as i said the service will max out a 1gb port .......
