SOGEA

Hello dont know if anyone can provide me with some information please

We have a SOGEA internet connection, the line I belive is copper wire to the nearest cabinet
The broadband was working fine untill after a storm the other day.
now the BT router is solid orange with no internet connection.

Lookng online, all I can find is info on BT routers with a phone line, saying the orange lite, means router has internet connection, but user name and password is being rejected,

I dont belive that this applies to a SOGEAR connection! am I correct?

The phone line runs from the bulding to a pole and half way up the pole and along three other poles half way up, running through trees, before going down the forth pole and going underground.

Last time we had a problem like this there was a break in the cable where it ran through the trees.
And I belive that it is the same problem again, a broken cable along the tree line.
What does a solid orange light mean on a SOGEA connection (as i cannot find anything online)

anything you can tell me about the SOGEA connection and BT router lights would be appreciated

Have you tried this advice?
Connect a device to your Hub. Open a new web browser window and follow the on-screen help wizard to get connected.

Have you contacted BT?

SOGEA just means there is no voice service on your line. It has nothing to do with your broadband.

Phone up your ISP and report the fault to them, you likely need an engineer

If the connection status light is normally green, then orange probably means "trying to establish connection and failing"

I would guess that if you pull out the copper connection to the master socket it probably won't change.

It sounds like you have another cable break. Report the fault to your ISP (sooner the better to get it fixed sooner or more compensation)

As others have mentioned from a broadband perspective SOGEA is exactly the same as FTTC.

Try hitting the reset button on the back of the router (might need a pin to hold the button in till the light on the front changes to green, then let it cycle through its start up.

If it stays orange, report to BT. Faulty DSLAM ties maybe, or a faulty router … plenty of other culprits too

If the router is showing a solid orange light, I doubt it’s a ‘cable break’.

If I walked in and saw that, I’d be testing for correct port ID, and does the sync give PPP to my test kit

You say you had a storm, did this include lightning at all?

Lightning hit our street cabinet once and fried a line card in the headend inside. I told Sky at the time that it's gone off because of lightning, because we literally had lightning then the internet went off, but they wouldn't have it. They refused to help me until I bought a new router (that I refused to pay for and they agreed to send it me for free if I at least paid the postage).

Connect new router, and lo and behold, still broken (I had spare HG612's so I was able to rule out device failure).

Once I finally got an Openreach engineer out, even he came to the house and asked if my router/modem was OK and only found the fault after he visited the cabinet.... Do they not actively monitor these things?
