Giganet availability checker

[link to this post]

Does the availability checker for Giganet actually work for anybody? I'm a very happy Giganet customer and when a work colleague said he was looking for a new provider I recommended Giganet but when he tried the availability checker it said it was not available even though he's on the Openreach full fibre network with Sky at the moment. I then tried my address and it said the same, even though I'm a current customer.. I've tried lots of other checkers for full fibre and they all say it is available to me (even Cuckoo which I think is owned by Giganet) but when I raised this with Giganet they were adamant that their availability checker is working fine. I wonder what's going on?

I've noticed the same with my address.

I think they have stopped selling connections on the openreach network, just focussing on their own + cityfibre

All still working fine, and perhaps one of their sibling companies will take that load instead (like cuckoo).

They might stop taking "off-net" orders on Openreach but I would be very very surprised if they stopped taking all orders on Openreach.

They spent a fair bit of time and money getting cablelinks installed in exchanges so they could use their own backhaul options on Openreach FTTP

Edit: They aren't available everywhere Openreach FTTP is but they show availability where I know they definitely have their kit in the exchange.
The package being offered is 900/100 so definitely over Openreach.

So they are only selling Openreach FTTP where they have their own GEA cablelinks.

Ah interesting, so perhaps in my area (HOVE) they do not -- though that's a little surprisingly given cityfibre is at least in the city. Still being rolled out though, but hopefully will have the option to switch to that in future to get symmetric

That being said the service is fine right now....

I didn't realise they offered 900/100 at all due to the high wholesale price

Thanks for working out the explanation.

Functionally it's a bit like an ISP that in days of yore would only provide a service at an exchange they had unbundled (LLU) and installed kit at.

https://www.allpointsfibre.com/news/fern-accelerates...

Giganet took over Cuckoo , FernTrading took over Giganet , Jurassic , Swish and they are run by AllPoints ..

Centres merged, staff redundancies and general carnage while things get sorted out.

My friends have Giganet FTTP over OR , neighbours had looked and the site offered them the same, now they want to go ahead Giganet site says no , we are not in your area.

Sounds as if whats happened is that when they merged they didn't merge and cleanse any database and staff redundancies it would create the mess you guys have seen!
