Are we too far from the pole ?

[link to this post]

Our area is part of Project Gigabit and the telecom poles are being installed as I type. We are about 200m as the crow flies from the nearest pole. The topology involves a deep slope down from the pole location to a small stream and then a rising slope up towards our property. The land is not ours.

I contacted Fibrus to ask how the connection would be made and who would foot the bill but answer came there none.

Can anyone enlighten me please ?

If you're going to be directly served by a pole overhead to your property you will need to be within about 65 metres give or take of the final pole. There is a minimum height the cable needs to be above the ground I would guess at about 5+ metres but someone else may know for sure.

As per my OP, we are well over 65m. I guess it will be four poles. Anyone know if the landowners permission is required.

Thank you for the confirmation. As an aside, just found out that the telecom poles scheduled to have been installed this week have been delayed by probably around 8 weeks while.....wait for it....wait for it...Fibrus get the wayleaves sorted out. Which they had omitted to do. A wee error on their part.

Don't count your chickens until any necessary wayleave is signed. The landowner in under no obligation to sign it

How is your Openreach service provided at present ?
Would have thought first choice would be for Gigabit to use same route and method .

A good question. Underground duct and it could possibly be used. No way of knowing until a site survey.

However, the good news is that I received and email from Gigabit telling me that it is down to them to provide the connection and at their cost.

Happy Days.

You may want to confirm if there's a cost threshold. IIRC it's normally £3,400 – plenty for most installations but in your case it might not be enough.
