I've recently changed over from Sky to Vodafone FTTP 900 package, not a bad deal £36 per month and also moved my mobile contract across for £10 per for 100GB a month.
I've plugged in my own Asus (Merlin FW) router, which pretty much connected right away, with a few tweaks after the username and password change.
What I have noticed is that real world speeds differ to 'speed tests'. I have two PCs wired into the router. One running a VPN, the other without.
Both PC's will breeze any online speed test via a browser, showing 900+ download speeds. However, things seem different in the 'real world'.
Updating games from Epic (40+GB in size) only download around 24-27mbps and is shared across both computers? Pausing one PC's download affects the speed of the other, with our without the VPN turned on, which seems strange.
Other downloads from MS, also don't seem to get the full 900 mbps that I would expect from their servers.
Maybe due to the fact VW/Audi sent be a 'cheque' for cheating the emissions testing and I've got my tin foil hat on when I write this post.
But, would it beyond ISPs to 'cheat' browser speed tests to show higher speeds that users get offered in day to day use?
