Air Blown Fibre history

[link to this post]

Hi all

I'm currently doing some research regarding the history and evolution of air blown fibre cables. Does anyone have any good resources they could point me to that sets it out (from BT in the 1980s onwards)?

Thanks for your help!

Try to contact David Stockton. I'm sure you can find him on LinkedIn. I think he was involved with blown fibre at 'BT Labs' in the 90s, then at Emtelle and later at Miniflex/m2fx

Have a look through https://www.plumettaz.com/0/6CE75CCEB1BE1406C12588F6... and then you can go into the cited sources further if needed

Michael Reeve and Stephen Cassidy (BT) filed patent applications on blown fibre on 8.11.1982 and 8.4.1983, so the work must have been done before then. These led to the European patent in the cited article and patents in a number of other industrial countries. Using air for a pull-through parachute and water for building a cable were already known. From the patent applications it seems that their understanding of the hydrodynamics improved between those two dates.
