How to Setup H!B ONT with own router

[link to this post]

Hi,
I've tried to read through various posts here on how to set up the ont with my own router.
I have the Synology 1900ac router. Upon calling H!B support and requesting pppoe credentials i was told they were switching to the DCHP?
Any help would be appreciated on how to set it up without pppoe.
Upon plugging lead from ont into the computer, it will not assign ip publically.
Thanks so much in advance

Synology's web pages are very good, this page might help you. DHCP is very commonly used, so all routers support. Leave all the option boxes blank, and just click OK unless Hey!Broadband tell you otherwise.

You need to copy the MAC address from the supplied router to your new one

Does the original MAC address time out? There was an issue like that with Gigaclear when their box was put into bridge mode and I started to use my own router. I had a to wait about 10 minutes after powering their box on before I could use a router with a different MAC address.

I think Gigaclear have since changed to allow an immediate MAC address change.

using bridge mode means the original router authenticates to the network then passes all traffic to your own router copying the mac of original to your own router makes your own router to pretend to be the original router and authenticate as your original.

the 10 mins wait is while your isp router connects and gets service.

I don't think you've understood the thread.

This is about FTTP, with a provider ONT as demarcation. There is no need for "bridge mode" anywhere in such a setup. The customer's own router's WAN port connects directly to the ONT, with nothing in between.

With some providers power cycling the ONT might clear any cached MAC address... similar approach with VM when you use their box in modem mode.

My Hey!Broadband bridge mode setup was super simple, router set to DHCP, address allocated and done.

I didn't do anything with mac address, vlan, etc.

using bridge mode means
You not understanding any technology issues seems to have become a habit on here fella, you claiming to be a customer facing Openreach FTTP engineer is laughable considering you don't even understand the basics of how a router connects with an ONT.
