Don't forget that the PSTN is being switched off next year.

Normally if you port your number to a VOIP provider the PSTN service and associated broadband get terminated. If you change phone and broadband to A&A they will likely be able to help you without any loss of service. They are a little more expensive.

IIRC the same applies with BT services as they lump voice and broadband together, porting out the digital voice number to another provider may well cease the broadband despite there being no technical reason for it doing so.

The simplest approach would be migrate both digital voice and broadband to another supplier who supports both e.g. Zen, TalkTalk as well as Sky and Vodafone. Supposedly one-touch switching should handle migrating both simultaneously to another provider.

Delayed by Ofcom and BT to January 2027

If your telephone is from another provider (e.g. Virgin Media, TalkTalk etc) they CAN have different dates, depends if they use Openreach Wholesale Line Rental (WLR)

I don't think Talktalk do digital voice (although maybe they've started)

Personally I'd suggest Plusnet + separate VOIP provider: less than £1.50 per month from AAISP, and no VOIP hardware needed if you buy Acrobits Softphone for £6 one-time cost. Then you can use your mobile to receive "landline" calls anywhere (and make them, but usually it's cheaper just using your mobile calling plan)

But if you want a combined provider then BT, EE, Sky, Zen and Vodafone are your main choices. And as you say, of those, Vodafone has the worst reputation for customer service.

As an ex-vodafone customer, I'd heartily endorse this. Ironically, the only interaction I ever had with them that wasn't endlessly painful was when I terminated the service - they actually did this perfectly!

It's worth noting that over the 5+ years I was with them, their technical service (i.e. the actual broadband) was really very good - reliable and, within the limitations of my rubbish VDSL connection - consistently performant. It's just that on the few occasions where I did have to contact them, the experience was truly painful in every possible way.

I've moved away to an altnet now, but would I go back? No, probably not.
