Full Fibre 50% slower!

[link to this post]

Hello, I got full fibre installed a month ago and since then I've been getting a download speed of 300mbps or very close to it all the time!

I live in flats and the flat next door got full fibre installed 3 days ago, since then my download speed has not been above 144mbps 50% SLOWER!!

is his line costing me 50% of my speed? is this acceptable?

If you are paying for 300, you should get 300. With FTTP, you should get the headline speed and neighbours should not come into the equation. Time to get on to your ISP.

are you connecting via wifi or ethernet?

if its wifi, download a wifi analizer and check to see if you neighbours and you are using the same 2.5 and or 5ghz frequencies - i suspect you are on ch6

Wired or wireless connection? Before jumping onto your ISP make sure you've done a wired test.

As others have said, in general - no - this is not really possible.

If you are predominantly using your internet connection via a WiFi connection - then that may suffer from neighbouring interference or congestion, particularly if you are using default band settings (and so are your neighbours).

WiFi at 2.4 Ghz especially and even at 5 Ghz operates in a very congested public, unlicensed part of the spectrum.

This may be what is leading you to perceive your internet connection is running at half its previous speed.

Without wanting to sound patronising, how much technical knowledge do you have? Can you check/investigate and/or change your WiFi settings on your presumably WiFi-equipped router?

Is that Virgin Media by any chance?
