How much to install a new internet cable?

I'd like to relocate my internet socket to a new location from the loungeroom to the study nook. Whats the going rate to install the cabling in a one storey home brick and tiled roof? I am hoping it will stop the drop outs. Any rough costings for this????

when you say drop outs is this with a wired connection or wireless.

Also what equipment do you have; as in wifi-dsl router and or wifi mesh system?

I expect the OP is stateside, given the terminology and manner of expression. Not sure we can be of much help, so many variations and permutations.

Or it could be one of those generic questions used to create an account and establish a history for it, before posting spam.

Not really. Time of day of posting of the OP suggests it’s USA. That or they’re insomniacs.

Not everyone stateside lives in timber house with white picket fences 😎

Lots if you're Boston or further north, or even Washington state. Where the weather is colder or wetter than UK

Down to Washington DC or similar latitude, then brick is for those with loadsamoney. (Harry Enfield style)

Best bet is to call your service provider and ask them for a cost to relocate, if that’s your key aim. Dropouts (could cover a multitude of things) are typically caused by factors on your own side of the network, such as WiFi. So best to ensure that’s not the case with further testing, by directly connecting using an Ethernet cable to the ONT where the fibre cable terminates. Again your service provider should be able to help.

Repairs (where it’s the service providers issue are free) but internal relocation of their equipment and cabling, they may charge a nominal fee which may be less than what you think.

Fibre cables aren’t as robust as copper and need care to ensure they’re not bent beyond a certain point otherwise they can fracture / fail internally and any connectors need to be similarly carefully handled etc. end faces in particular are susceptible to dust and finger prints if they’re not capped. Best to leave that to someone who knows what they’re doing / responsible if it all goes wrong.

No one cares. What is relevant is the hardware you have. If your fibre is terminated with a ONT, then you best move is to extend from the ONT with an ethernet cable to place for your router where the wireless works. You don't need the ISP to do this. But if you don't tell us about your kit or where you are, we are all left guessing.
