Can I switch off EEro node at night time.

[link to this post]

Hi folks,

Youfibre have been great in that they have given me another EEro device (Node) for a blind spot upstairs in the house,

I have the main EEro router downstairs which is on all the time, Just wondering though does switching off the new one upstairs have any disadvantages, since the main EEro downstairs is on all the time?

I do know that its not a good idea to switch off the main router but does this apply to the Node upstairs as well?

For anyone who read my previous thread about no internet when PC awoke from sleep, they have disabled the IPv6 which does seem to help. (don't want to bring old thread to the top again)

Thanks.

You haven't explained the reason why you want to do this, i doubt they use much electricity or are a fire risk why do you need to switch it off?

Thanks just one of these people who likes to have most electrical devices switched off at night time, i.e not connected to the power supply.

Currently its just Router, Fridge and alarm clock that are on in house. Phone and other tablets are on too, but not connected to the power supply.

The EEro node that was added does generate a bit of heat and would probably switch it off if it wouldn't affect how the download internet speed would be regulated by the ISP's infrastructure, and switching it back on again as the need required.

It's just a meshed-in repeater, so no harm in switching it off.

You could even switch off the main router, it's not going to do any harm. It doesn't need to re-train on power on like a DSL modem.

as Pheasant says its not like dsl, were you could loose speed because of the turning off and on again. With full fat fibre, turning even the ont off will not cause any problems ..... That said, i'd leave the ont for any updates over night - that though is rare.

Although it might be wise to leave the units on overnight occasionally so that they can receive software updates etc.

OP could also just do the updates manually / or schedule to suit. Doesn’t strictly have to be overnight…but I do get what you’re saying.

I generally update routers manually. Force of habit I guess / control freakery 😂
