Removal of old Openreach overhead copper line

[link to this post]

Over 6 months into my lovely new FTTP connection and extremely happy with things. Unfortunately, because it is provided by an altnet, when it was installed they left the existing copper overhead line in place as they "are not allowed to touch existing lines", which made sense at the time. Indeed, I would have told them to leave it up anyway as we were one of the first on a new exchange to be installed and I didn't want to be without internet. As it happens, it took another 3 weeks after installation for the new service to go live, so it was a good job the old connection was left behind!

But, several months have now passed and it would be nice to get rid of the second overhead line. Is there any facility within Openreach to request its removal? Is it something they would want to do anyway, given that right now, there is no OR FTTP provision on my pole?

That is for if it is dangerous, old copper cables are not normally dangerous unless they are hanging low over a road.
At some point they may vanish, but they are not harming anyone hanging. I did think I would like to get rid of the master socket, but I will leave It, a reminder of old days smile. Also, never know if I may need it again.

song jokes aside, as more and more are able to have fttp this will certainly be the case. Many in other threads have stated (and you yourself fully understand) that fttc as a backup to fttp is limited in being a back up service.

And when the area goes copper stop-sell, you won't be able to regrade the FTTC or migrate it to another provider.
