Recent switching experience

Hi there,

Since the will price increase in April, I decided to quit my EE contract (on BT network) and switch to Vodafone.

After reading some news about "One Touch Switching (OTS)", I expected to be able to switch within a few days rather than 14 days. I submitted some EE information when I ordered at Vodafone and received a "sorry-to-see-you-go" message from EE within a few minutes. But according to the messages I've received from Vodafone (including one from Openreach), my service still needs to be activated after 14 days. So, does OTS make any points for customers? I thought 2 years ago we already didn't need to contact the old provider when switching.

I thought (may be wrongly) the OTS services was more about one touch when moving between infrastructure providers e.g. Openreach to Virgin, Openreach to an Altnet

OneTouch is about switching between consumer retail providers (business added soon), regardless of the underlining networks they maybe using. In other words, OTS should be used in all fixed landline situations.

The switch date will be set to 14 days in the future by the gaining provider to allow for the cooling-off period. The main aim of OTS is to allow for a standardised gaining-provider-led approach, to allow people to migrate their service without having to talk to the losing provider where they might attempt to scare people into not making a change.

Vodafone have not yet implemented "next day, where possible" recommendations. They are still defaulting to 10 working days (14 with weekends).

Nope, next day is perfectly possible and already implemented by BTWholesale and CityFibre, when on-net. Vodafone just have not yet changed their backend systems.

A consumers rights to a cooling off, from the point of order, still applies regardless.

I would assume Vodafone have a lot of work to do in their backend before they're ready to get anywhere close to next-day. Last time I placed a new provide order with them it took three days just for the order to be confirmed.

May not be the case. I saw the following small print in the order confirmation email.

"If you change your mind, simply get in touch with us online up to 14 days after your activation date. If you want to leave us more than 14 days after your activation date, early termination fees may apply. "

Thanks for the extra insights, Martin. It seems that the big operators still have some way to go. I actually had a good experience with Aquiss, which also provided static IP blocks! But since I moved frequently in those years, it is no longer a good choice for me. Recommended to friends. smile
