Is Fibre Splicing Limited a sub-contractor for Openreach?

[link to this post]

Hello again,

Months ago, Openreach laid fibre under the pedestrian walkway across to road from my flat, and they connected up the main connection point (also across the road) for this entire area.

Today I noticed a company called Fibre Splicing Limited shoving a pair of black fibre cables under the pedestrian walkway on our side of the road. This picture shows them sanity checking the length using the blue nylon rope beforehand.

The question is, would this be part of the work to connect FTTP to our premises? Are they sub-contracted by Openreach? Or is this something completely different?

Thanks in advance.

Did you see which manhole covers they lifted? Could it be fibre being run in for Virgin Media/Nextfibre between the green cabinets on Popple Way and further west on Sish Lane?

Our property isn't covered by Virgin Media. No co-axial cable nor fibre. We only have copper telephone lines.

In any case, I'd take any FTTP provider that can service our area.

Were they running fibre to your building? You only said that they were running it under the pavement?

Your flats appear to be relatively new so presumably were built after the copper deployment for VM (or its predecessor). There are a lot of VM cabinets and manholes down your road that supply older properties, including one that appear to be next to the van (difficult to say for certain from the photo)

VM are currently running in fibre alongside the existing copper near me, in a town near you...

Could even be additional connectivity for the mobile phone industry; I see a streetworks site in your picture.

I've only seen GNS vans round near me installing for Netomnia? Do they use other subcontractors as well?

Unfortunately https://bidb.uk/ draws a blank around the OP's area but that's no surprise if they're just pulling fibre in ducts.

They use whomever is offering the right services in the right place at the right time! Likely they would stick to a single contractor at a time in regularly sized builds though.

Hi yes I’ve just looked into this and it seems that way. In fact, when I enter my postcode into their website it says they are building but require permission to deploy to my block of flats. They seem to be ahead of Openreach at my postcode.

It's worth noting though that nearby houses are out of scope so I wouldn't hold your breath.
