Openreach to Cityfibre Cease Fee?

[link to this post]

Is a cease fee when going from an Openreach provider to a Cityfibre one still standard post the intro of OTS? I thought things had changed but seemingly not.

If you are in contract it certainly would. OTS makes the process easier but doesn't change contractual obligations.

What does your contract with the losing provider state? Openreach charge their customers to cease lines and the smaller ISPs don't tend to just absorb this.

I remember getting charged for this by Cerberus back in June '21. It was £30 + VAT fee to cease "BT" (Wholesale presumably) arrangement rather than ceasing 'Openreach' per se as we just swapped to TT Biz using the same net...

Except, small fly in their ointment - there was no actual contractual provision in my contract for them to charge that (it was a later change to newer contracts). They admitted their mistake and some other miscalculations during end of contract reccy and made it all good.

Their service was good.

By 'before its intro' - do you actually mean before the service "grace" cooling off period initially - or do you mean before the anniversary of the full term of the agreement?

Quite different things.

Ok so you were out of the minimum contract term.

The next question - have you checked the actual terms of the contract; specifically for cancellation charges?

They need to explicitly list it (or other miscellaneous provider charges which they could hide behind) for them to attempt to legitimately levy it.

Who is the ISP?
