Fibre broadband upgrades (underground no poles)

[link to this post]

Hello quick question

I know the fibre rollout is easier with poles and they seem to get upgraded quicker ..

How about some new builds which were built but has the phone line underground with no telegraph poles

Is this being upgraded or not

Quick answer: Yes of course underground fed properties are being upgraded. But there are exceptions according to local circumstances, such as lack of ducting / direct-in-ground legacy copper infrastructure, which can temporarlity halt, divert resource / slow down progress.

I hold off the property than it says on openreqxh no plans to build and there's no telegraph poles all underground

It's not in a build area so I think I hold off that one

Looks like it was built around late 90s

Plans change all the time. So do your research carefully and thoroughly. More and more of the country is now covered by native Openreach FTTP as their run rate now covers an additional 4 million premises every year.

There also plenty of AltNet options and again these build are expanding and changing all the time. For example I just had a letter literally yesterday from CityFibre notifying me of their build locally.

Yes my entire area is fully underground. They deployed the aggregator node underground and laid fibre to all the streets. The whole neighbourhood then had FTTP.

Obviously not everywhere can be done simultaneously, some areas somewhere has to be ‘last’ , however if where you will be living is a relatively new address (built mid 1990’s onwards ) it’s likely be a fully ducted area , so the upgrade path to FTTP once initiated should be relatively easy for the network provider .
FWIW , it’s not the type of area that dictates the order the rollout occurs (as far as Openreach are concerned ) if that were the case all fully ducted areas would be done first (that’s by far the easiest areas ) followed by overhead areas served from poles , followed by DIG (directly buried underground cables )
