Help getting boardband to 6 houses passed over by everyone

Can any one point me in the right direction please. I manage 6 houses in Wimbledon all around CF/Openreach/virgin is available however the telephone poll in the mews was passed over. They are stuck on 8/9mb and deeply unhappy.

I tried a few months back to get them faster internet.

Community fibre weren't rolling out at that point (I've since called them again and they business team is going to call me back. they passed the pole but did every other property.

Openreach basically said I can't talk to them or place orders because the properties are tenanted and now the tenants must go through there ISP and demand minimum service guarantee, which then the ISP goes to Openreach however the ISP's are knocking back their requests back and fobbing them off.

Virgin just lead me in loops I was given a number but its disconnected now.

I'm willing to pay install costs £5/6k but not for a dedicated leased line because even 1GB wont be much of an upgrade when divided between 6 house holds each with 4persons.

You can’t just order a leased line and divvy it up like this anyway. There’s slightly more to it than that. I leave it at that for now.

In term of getting native FTTP is this little street adopted by the local council or is it private? Usually due to wayleave issue with private roads etc, Openreach and Altnets keep their distance. At least initially until any wayleave issues are sorted. That’s usually the first blocker. The subsequent blockers are then physical access and how to get cabling to the pole, if indeed that’s how they intend to serve fibre to those premises. The costs of running new ducting usually make this prohibitively expensive.

A 1gig leased line would be fine between 6 houses - it's a huge upgrade. Keep in mind GPON is 2.5gig shared between up to 32, so it is a lower contention ratio than that.

You could install the leased line, run ethernet to each house somehow and then charge the tenants £30-50/month each for the costs?

You would be turning yourself into an ISP, and becoming the first point of support for all Internet-related issues. I don't think you want that.

You would also need your leased line to come with a block of IPs big enough to give one to each tenant, otherwise you'll get into double-NAT issues e.g. games don't work properly. Then you would need to help your tenants configure their routers with the correct static IP address, or provide preconfigured routers for them.

You'd also likely need to log all traffic so that if the police were to knock on your door because the connection had been used for something illegal that you would be able to prove which of the houses did it.

As well as the issues that you and Ian have raised, there is the physical side of the connectivity. When it comes to practicality of how to run a cabled connection from one private premises to 5 or 6 others, its gets challenging - especially in a place like a Wimbledon mews. Would radio work well. Maybe yes maybe no. Who is going to install all this and at what cost? Its gets very messy, quickly.

Which is why basically nobody does it, although it sounds lovely in theory.

Explore the CFP as noted above. It may also be worth an escalation to the CEO at Openreach to see if there's a technical / commercial reasons why the mews / pole etc was skipped from the presumably surrounding commercial FTTP rollout.

Even with a budget of 10K you could easily blow that with unforeseen issues
